Even though there are 148,000 RN's in Texas, only 77% are employed.
The amount of nursing jobs in Texas that are available will continue
to grow steadily until past 2010. Texas is obviously in desperate
need of quality nurses to fill open hospital positions in the ER
emergency room, ICU intensive care unit, OR operating room, CCU
critical care unit, cardiac care unit, telemetry, dialysis, oncology
and several other departments. There are also many Texas travel
nursing jobs available. The shortages are driven by economic
pressures on hospitals and other providers, attractive career
options outside the nursing profession for students [and RNs], and
demographic forces including the aging of nurses, aging and
availability of nursing faculty, and a growing patient population.
Texas nurse jobs are also available in home health care, clinics,
community health centers, and schools.
Some of the largest vacancies are in Houston, Dallas, San
Antonio, Irving, Corpus Christi, Lubbock, Odessa, Austin, Galveston,
Amarillo and El Paso.
