A med surg nurse must be a jack-of-all-trades. They must be able to care for patients who could present with anything from the flu to post-surgical recovery. They play a big role in planning care, clarifying orders, and catching problems early for doctors who won’t see their hospitalized patients nearly as much.

Med surg nurse jobs are typically in hospitals or facilities that accept a mix of both post-operative patients and medical unit patients, which could include some clinics and other facilities.

The shortage of med surg nurses is extremely dire right now, and it doesn't appear likely to end anytime soon.
