POSITION SUMMARY
This position expands the clinical experience and assists professional nursing staff by performing a wide variety of patient care activities, which includes participating in patient care planning, implementation, observation and evaluation, as well as reporting significant observations to a registered nurse utilizing the framework for professional nursing practice and development.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Assists direct caregiver in the assessment, planning, diagnosis, implementation, evaluation and modification of nursing care. Reports patient status to a registered nurse.
2. Participates with other disciplines in the planning, implementation, evaluation and modification of nursing care and provides patient care utilizing skills for which competency has been established.
3. Performs procedures under the direction of a licensed caregiver for which competency has been established.
4. Assists with preparing patients for examination and procedures.
5. Participates in unit or facility shared leadership.

This position is for those who are in the accelerated nursing program at UNC and will graduate Dec 2009.

Must have graduated from an accredited nursing program and be eligible for NCLEX–RN licensure exam.

Licensure must be obtained within 45 days of employment. An employee is eligible to function in this role for 45 days only.
