Job Description

Performs routine patient/resident care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse to promote patient comfort and contribute to the overall patient plan of care. The CNA recognizes and reports significant observations to the assigned RN/LPN. Patient/resident care is impartial, regardless of race, creed, sex, national origin, source of payment, sexual preference or beliefs. Patients/residents of all ages are served including neonate and infant, pediatric and adolescent, adult and geriatric populations. The CNA strives for a variety of opportunities to use clinical skills, offer patient/family teaching and participate in a multidisciplinary approach to care.
*2 years psychiatric experience preferred

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assessment & Intervention
Apply initial and ongoing assessment and intervention skills in all interactions and delivery of nursing assistant care. Provide assistance in activities of daily living to promote patient/resident health. Safely completes delegated tasks and uses equipment in the delivery of patient/resident care within the CNA scope of practice.
Communication, Relationships & FMH/DC Standards
Communicate with patients/residents, team members, and management in an accurate, timely manner. Reports pertinent, concise information; accomplishes assigned charting in a timely manner; effectively uses the electronic medical record system. Protects confidentiality of patients/residents and colleagues. Actively seeks out and accepts feedback.
Develops and maintains human care relationships. Supports the influence of the individual's human experiences of health, illness & healing into the nursing care plan. Advocates for needs of patients/residents; provides care in an ethical and legal manner; refers concerns/issues to appropriate resources. Meets FMH/DC standards related to: Telephone etiquette, customer service, attendance, punctuality, comportment, inter/intra departmental commitment to co-workers, confidentiality, corporate compliance, patient/residents/provider rights, adheres to dress code and completes times sheets accurately.
Critical Thinking
Organizes and prioritizes delegated tasks to deliver care to multiple patients/residents. Chooses between available CNA skills to address patient/resident comfort, ADL's and basic care needs effectively. Identifies significant patient/resident problems and recognizes the urgency of the problem. Recognizes and acknowledges limitations and capabilities and
refers to RN/LPN when needed.
Manages self and resources/leadership skills
Manages self and resources: Identifies learning needs and seeks opportunities to advance CNA skills; utilizes equipment and supplies effectively; maintains clean, orderly environment of care; positively participates in unit changes and productively manages downtime per unit standards.
Leadership skills: Identifies scope of practice for self and works within the defined limits of scope; interacts with others in respectful manner; manages conflict; practices commitment to co-workers; delivers care within multi-disciplinary team approach. Reports concerns regarding patient/resident care and/or unit operations through appropriate channels. Actively
participates in the orientation of new hospital personnel.
Teaching and Health Promotion
Contributes to patient/resident education related to illness/injury and self care. Reinforces RN/LPN patient/resident teaching.
Knowledge development
Applies age specific care and knowledge of expected norms in providing nursing assistant care (i.e.- VS, pain scale, communication, etc.). Actively seeks opportunities to increase CNA skills and knowledge. Integrates technical, psychological, social, intellectual, and physical skills in the delivery of CNA patient/resident care.
Must possess a current valid Alaska CNA certification with a current BLS certification. Relates throughout the interview process the experience, training and education needed to perform the role. Behavior and answers to role related questions demonstrate experience and preparation for the role.
